Carry Layer
A Study in Utility and Heritage
The Story
The Carry Layer is an exploration of volume and the weight of history. Each piece is constructed from hand-loomed antique textiles, chosen for their structural integrity and the stories woven into their fibers. This is a garment designed for movement - a minimalist silhouette that acts as a canvas for the wearer’s own styling intuition.
There is no blueprint here, only a dialogue between the hand and the cloth. While the silhouette is minimal, the construction is rigorous: every seam is finished with 100% silk thread. I believe that if these textiles have survived a century, they deserve a level of handwork from the present that matches their original makers' patience. This devotion transforms the heavy hemp into a "functional sculpture" - a piece that carries the weight of the past while offering a grounded, protective presence for the modern day.
The Artistry of the Detail
The Cut: A generous, minimal drape featuring two discreet hidden pockets for essential utility.
The Wrap: Each piece comes with a substantial pocket bag, allowing you to wrap, tie, and close the garment in infinite variations.
The Stitching: Entirely hand-finished with 100% silk thread, ensuring a flexible, living seam that breathes with the heavy antique fibers.
The Ceramics: Adorned with hand-formed ceramic charms, sculpted and fired in the studio next door to serve as weighted anchors for the textile’s drape.
Textile Variations & Living Color
These layers are available in rare, small-batch textile finds:
Antique European Hemp: A heavy, hand-woven cream fiber with a rustic, sculptural presence.
Heritage Black Thai Indigo: A 50-year-old textile collected during my travels through the mountains of Vietnam. The Black Thai ethnic group grows their own cotton, spins the yarn, and harvests their own indigo. Each cloth undergoes a two-week immersion in indigo vats to reach a shade so deep it sits on the edge of black—a testament to a generational craft.
Botanical Dye Options: The European Hemp version can be naturally dyed to order in Sea Almond Sand (parchment brown), Cutch (earth-born wood tones), Ryukyu Indigo (A vibrant, layered blue rooted in tradition), Overdyed Black (A dense, complex dark achieved through multiple Ryukyu indigo and Sea Almond dye baths)
