Relearning series - top
A foundational piece in the s.i.t.a vocabulary — the Relearning Top is the result of unlearning habits, relearning patience, and trusting the rhythm of the hand.
Fully hand-stitched and hand-pieced from linen offcuts and fragments — each carrying its own age, wear, and quiet resilience. The silhouette is gently fitted. Shoulder straps are made from antique linen and finished with adjustable slip knots. Buttonholes are stitched by hand with 100% silk thread, and fastened with handmade ceramic buttons.
In working with antique textiles, I often feel like a translator — or a quiet collaborator. There’s a deep respect for the original makers, for the time their hands held these materials. But with the Relearning series, I’m asking what it means to be an original maker again. It’s a small shift — from preserving to responding.
This top began as a collage of feeling: fragments and off-cuts guided by intuition, imperfection shaping the form. It’s called Relearning because that’s what it feels like — returning to the same essence, but allowing something more personal to emerge, even within the limits of inherited cloth.
First created as a core piece for the Paris showroom, this garment remains a vessel for process — a study in presence, and in becoming.
