the ruin

Nestled in the foothills of Yangming Mountain, our Taipei space is part home, part studio, part tea room, and part showroom. Housed in a former water company dormitory, the building has been gently restored — not to erase its past, but to live alongside it.

Here, things move slowly. Fragments of antique textiles from France, Italy, and Japan are sorted, patched, and brought back to life by hand. Natural dye baths steep with logwood or leaves from the garden. There’s a small front yard, uneven in its concrete, where we dream of softening the lines with plants, stones, and story.

We found this place by luck. Originally, I was just looking for a ceramic studio to fire some of my pieces. Instead, we found ourselves the best neighbors, and the beginnings of a space we could call our own.

Living closer to nature, becoming part of a small community, building a space where we could work, grow, dye, and dream — and doing all of this while staying close to family — was something we imagined from far away. Just a year ago, it felt like a distant hope. Now, it feels like we’ve lived several lives since.

In the summer of 2024, we took a risk and moved everything home, with our two cats in tow. After 17 years away, everything felt unfamiliar and yet deeply known. Finding and slowly renovating this space became an anchor — something to return to, something to shape day by day.

It will always be a work in progress, because that’s just how Faline and I are. But we’d love to welcome you in.  Touch the pieces, have some tea, and stay for a chat.

Expected to open in early September 2025, the studio will welcome visitors by appointment only.
